In severe conditions of the new land, Vietnamese immigrants settling in Phu Quoc often grouped together for mutual assistance in need. As time went by, more residents came to live and develop villages with more temples and shrines etc. Conventionally, the very first job that a Vietnamese group do on settling in any new land is to build a temple.

In 1959, Duong Dong Club-House was established and Duong Dong Deity Temple was rebuilt to worship the deities of 9 ancient villages Duong Dong Deity Temple. Since then Duong Dong Deity temple has become the common religious place for the entire island to worship Bon Canh Tutelary God and sages, and organize traditional activities so as to enhance the spiritual life of islanders. Twice ayear Phu Quoc residents hold the temple worshipping ceremony on the 10th of lunar January and on the 15th of junar Junly in which numerous ceremonials are solemnly performed to express gratitude toward the ancestors that helped to reclaim and establish the village. This is the chance for old aged people and fishermen to make grateful offerings and to gray for successful career. Young people also take this chance to get acquainted with each other.
